History

Burniston Show was first held as a Floral and Horticultural Society Show in 1888, and was funded by local farmers, who pledged up to £10 each to fund the Burniston and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show. The first Show was held on ground behind the Three Jolly Sailors Pub, with special prizes being reserved for the residents of Burniston, Cloughton, Staintondale and Harwood Dale.

Despite the two World Wars and problems caused due to the outbreak of Foot and Mouth, the Burniston Show has developed into its current August Bank Holiday Event, which includes exhibits of rabbits and cavies, poultry and waterfowl, traditional crafts, baking, honey and wine making, classic and vintage machinery, and the horticultural and agricultural classes.

Hot food, hot and cold drinks, ice cream and a fairground and children's games are all available on site, with a wide variety of Trade Stands and displays to cater for a wide range of visitors and enthusiasts. If you would like to receive more information about any aspect of the show, or would be interested in helping or sponsoring an event, please contact one of our secretaries who would be very willing to help you.
